New Hall School Eco Council Achieves Record Donation for Chelmsford Foodbank

Date Posted: Friday 28 November 2025

New Hall School in Chelmsford is delighted to announce an exceptional increase in its annual autumn donations to the Chelmsford Foodbank. Thanks to the generosity of the School community, contributions more than doubled, rising from 611 items last year to over 1,300 items this year, one of the largest single donations the Foodbank has ever received.

Eco Council students delivered the donations to the Foodbank’s warehouse on Beehive Lane, where the collection was confirmed at an impressive 487kg of food and essential supplies. These items will directly support families across Chelmsford who are experiencing crisis.

Chelmsford Foodbank, part of The Trussell Trust network, distributed 8,769 emergency food parcels last year and relies heavily on support from local schools, organisations and residents.

A key driver of sustainability at New Hall is the Eco Council, a dedicated team of 10, including two Prefects, and students from Years 7 and 10. Mrs Willson, Teacher of Biology and leader of the Eco Council, commented: “What has stood out most is the impact this will have on our local community. Our students understand that their efforts will help families facing real hardship, and that sense of shared responsibility has been incredibly powerful. We are grateful to every family who contributed and proud to play a part in supporting Chelmsford at a time of need.”

New Hall School is deeply committed to sustainability, embedding ecological responsibility into every aspect of School life. Through innovative initiatives, curriculum integration, and long-term environmental projects, the School fosters a culture of environmental awareness among students and staff, ensuring a greener future for the community.
