National Careers Week 2025: A Week of Exploration and Inspiration
Date Posted: Friday 07 March 2025
National Careers Week 2025 at New Hall was packed with a variety of events designed to encourage our students to reflect on their skills and explore the vast range of opportunities available. With a focus on practical activities, expert workshops, and industry insights, the week helped students to gain valuable knowledge and inspiration for their future career paths.
Year 7 – Soapbox Challenge
Year 7 students took part in the Soapbox Challenge. Working in teams, they were tasked with designing and creating a bar of soap and its packaging for a specific target market. This hands-on challenge encouraged students to think creatively and apply problem-solving skills, all while considering design principles and market needs. The highlight of the challenge was presenting their ideas to a panel of judges, who were impressed by the innovative ideas and teamwork.
Year 8 – NHS Employability Skills Workshop
Year 8 students had the opportunity to take part in the NHS Employability Skills Workshop. This session offered an in-depth look at the vast array of careers available within the NHS, from medical roles to administrative and support positions. The workshop also focused on the key employability skills that NHS employers look for when recruiting staff, such as teamwork, communication, and problem-solving.
Year 9 – Careers Networking Event
Year 9 students participated in a Careers Networking Event, where they were able to engage with representatives from major industries such as Kier Construction, BT and Better Agency, BAE Systems, and the NHS. Students took part in work-related activities which provided insight into different industries experiencing skills shortages.
Year 10 – Preparation for the Workplace
Year 10 students had a comprehensive Preparation for the Workplace event, focusing on honing their interview skills. In the afternoon, each student participated in a one-on-one mock interview with a business volunteer. This provided students with constructive feedback that they can use to improve their performance in future job, college, or university interviews.
26 Year 10 students had the opportunity to visit the Aerozone Centre at Stansted Airport. This offered an insight into the aviation industry and the wide range of pathways available. Students learned about everything from air traffic control to customer service, and the skills required to pursue a career in aviation.
We would like to extend our thanks to all the volunteers, professionals, and industry representatives who made this week possible, and to our students for their enthusiasm and participation. Let’s continue to explore, learn, and grow as we prepare for the future!
