Film & Television Workshop
Date Posted: Saturday 24 May 2025
Year 10 Drama students had the opportunity to participate in a bespoke acting workshop with three professional actors, focusing on techniques needed for working with cameras.
Understanding creative industries and how to enter and work within them was a key element of the learning process, with a question-and-answer session and hands-on activities. Students had one-to-one supervision and opportunities to share work created with a focus on the audition process and demands of working on a film set. All participants showed creativity, professionalism and engagement.
Thank you to the three actors concerned:
Nathan Hubble (Old Fish, New Hall 2014-2016) is an actor, music artist, writer, and director. He holds a BA in English Literature from King’s College London and trained in MA Acting at Drama Centre London. His debut short film as writer-director, Smokescreen, represents the culmination of his artistic development across TV & Film, songwriting and stage plays. Recently appearing in the Disney+ project One Thousand Blows, he is an exciting fresh talent.
Connor Finch is a rising British actor who starred in the BBC adaptation of Everything I Know About Love and is about to appear in the new Mark Gatiss television series on Sky, Bookish. An Essex-born stage and screen actor, he attended Guildhall School of Music & Drama focussing on the Strasburg Method of Acting.
Billy Herring was born in East London in 1981, before moving to Essex as a child, where he still lives today. He is an actor, screenwriter and producer. Billy achieved a BA and MA in Acting from Northampton University and has been working as a professional since graduating in 2005. Billy’s first feature film The Volunteers is based upon a true story about his father.
Did you know that New Hall is a Trinity Drama Champion Centre? The Drama Department looks forward to building up our workshop opportunities and Trinity Teaching programme even more, looking at stage fighting, film acting as well as the Public Speaking and stage acting options. This week’s co-curricular Trinity examinations in Speech and Drama, Performance Arts, Musical Theatre, and Communication Skills went swimmingly. All 14 students worked incredibly hard, and the results reflect their efforts: 12 Distinctions, one Merit and one Pass. We are so proud of all who entered and our 85% Distinction rate!
