English Schools Cross Country Competition

There was great success at last weekend’s English Schools Cross Country Competition [March 2023]. In the beautiful backdrop of Wollaton Park in Nottingham, our athletes participated in what is traditionally considered the most prestigious junior competition in England for Cross Country runners. New Hall qualified two girls in the Junior Girls’ race, Olivia F (Year 9) and Isabel F (Year 8). Having already had a very successful cross country season, the two sisters topped it off by being part of an Essex team who won the Steadman trophy for having the highest scoring 8 runners in their team.
Olivia was 3rd individual in the Junior Girls’ race, earning her a National bronze medal and qualifying her for next week’s SIAB Cross Country. Olivia commented, “In a very close finish, I came 3rd overall out of 338 finishers, only 1 second behind the leader and in the same time as 2nd place. I will now run for England in Liverpool on Saturday. The race will have selected runners from England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales competing.” This is an incredible achievement, and we are certain it will be the first of many more international appearances for this young superstar.
