What Our Boarders Say
There is a special, homely feel to the boarding community at New Hall. Our team of boarding staff is committed to providing a happy, settled and safe family environment for every child,
where confidence, intellectual curiosity and independence are fostered.
Jennifer (Head of House, Dennett House)
“Starting as a new international boarder was both exciting and nerve-wracking, but from day one, I felt very welcomed in Dennett by the house staff and students. Living with students from different backgrounds made it easy to form friendships, and there was always something happening – whether it was house events like Pancake night, weekend trips to Cambridge, or simply enjoying time together in the evenings. Boarding has given me a home away from home, helping me grow in independence while making incredible memories. It’s an experience I wouldn’t trade for anything.”
Danis (Campion House)
“Having joined New Hall this year, I can say that both the Campion staff and the boarders made me feel at home within no time. The common area is a place for lively discussions, social evenings and games, all of which contribute to the atmosphere of camaraderie at Campion, which is especially unique to me as someone who hadn’t boarded until September. The daily study schedule has also helped me significantly in improving my productivity and time management compared to last year. Staff are full of understanding and eager to help with any questions or qualms we may have, and are active in both suggesting new ideas for quality-of-life improvements and organizing fun trips or activities I likely wouldn’t have tried otherwise. As a piano player it also means a lot to me having a piano in the boarding house, as I can sit down and play at any time, and can also get inspired by the other boarders playing different compositions.”
Chenai (Dennett House)
“Being a weekly boarder at Dennett House has allowed me to gain independence and has encouraged me to develop time management and organisational skills. There is a great atmosphere in the boarding house, making it feel homely. I have formed lifelong friendships here that feel like family. The boarding staff are so friendly and are always available for a chat. I thoroughly enjoyed all the activities, such as gingerbread house-making competitions and the notorious bingo nights. Boarding enabled me to broaden my horizons and gain independence, which will help me in university.”
Harry (Campion House)
“Starting boarding in Year 12 was one of the best decisions I’ve made at New Hall. The opportunity to enjoy incredible facilities outside of school hours, all while being in a homely environment with my friends, is truly amazing!”
Tami (Dennett House)
“Boarding at Dennett House has been an incredible experience—so much so that I miss home less than I expected! It has allowed me to form lifelong friendships and connect with older students I wouldn’t have met otherwise. I especially enjoy our weekly social activities with Campion House, providing a fun break from studying. Plus, the warm and welcoming atmosphere, from shared experiences to Ms. Bonnici’s delicious homemade treats, makes boarding truly special. Dennett House is more than just a place to stay—it’s a home away from home!”
Wendy (Hawley House)
“In Hawley House, we all support each other and develop strong friendships that we’ll keep for life. We all look out for each other and there is always someone there to talk to. With evenings structured around studying and socialising, boarding really brings out our academic potential and forges friendships that will last a lifetime.”
Josiah (Petre House)
“For anyone who isn’t a boarder – you’re missing out! I have boarded for four years and really enjoyed the range of activities that we get to do, from inter-house sports competitions to staff making us drinks every ‘Milkshake Monday’. While having lots of fun is an important part of boarding, the best part is the level of support we each received from the staff. Whether it’s helping us with our homework or cheering us up if we feel down, the staff treat us like family and are really lovely!”
