Date Posted: Thursday 11 June 2026

New Hall School in Chelmsford is delighted to announce that the School’s Head of Basketball, Mr Kenrick Liburd, has been appointed as Head Coach of the Great Britain Women’s 3×3 programme. His appointment comes ahead of next week’s FIBA (International Basketball Federation) 3×3 Europe Cup Qualifiers in Romania.

Mr Liburd previously led the Great Britain U23 Women’s Team in the FIBA 3×3 Nations League, and he has played a significant role in developing emerging talent and preparing athletes for senior international competition.

Mr Liburd joined New Hall School in 2024, when Basketball was officially introduced as a co-curricular sport. Since then, the provision has gone from strength to strength, providing opportunities for students of all abilities to develop their skills, improve their fitness and enjoy the game in a supportive and ambitious environment.

Commenting on his appointment, Mr Liburd said: “It is a tremendous honour to be appointed Head Coach of the Great Britain Women’s 3×3 programme. Representing your country is always a privilege, and I am excited to work with a talented group of athletes as we prepare for the Europe Cup Qualifiers. The growth of 3×3 basketball in recent years has been remarkable, and I am looking forward to helping the team compete at the highest level. I am also proud to bring this experience back to New Hall, where we are building an exciting basketball programme and inspiring the next generation of players.”

The impact of Mr Liburd’s coaching is already being felt at New Hall. Earlier this year, Asher (Year 9) was selected for the England Talent Programme Training Camp, part of the England Basketball performance pathway. The three-day camp at the National Basketball Performance Centre in Manchester provides aspiring players with the opportunity to be assessed during national team activities, with successful athletes progressing into England national squads.

New Hall also recently hosted the inaugural Summer Series 3×3 Tournament, welcoming 10 local schools over three separate days, with teams competing from Years 7-9.

Mr Liburd’s appointment to Team GB is another significant milestone for Basketball at New Hall and reflects the School’s commitment to providing students with access to high-quality coaching and opportunities to excel in sport at every level.
