The King’s Birthday Honours List, published last Friday, brought exciting news for two members of the New Hall community. Congratulations to New Hall parent, Sir Mark Cavendish KBE, who has been knighted for services to cycling and charity work. We also send our congratulations to Old Fish, Dame Anya Hindmarch DBE, who has been honoured for her services to fashion and to business. In New Hall’s Sixth Form, Anya was an enthusiastic student of A Level Business Studies. She left the School in 1986 and launched her fashion label a year later, following studies in Florence. In her appearance on Desert Island Discs in 2012, Anya said that she had gained inspiration from New Hall’s beautiful buildings and particularly from our magnificent cedar trees. In 2009, Anya returned to New Hall to open our Design & Technology Centre, which is now the home of Cookery 2.
