The Nursery Division at New Hall is for children aged 1-4 and is based in a new, purpose-built premises.

Nursery (children aged 1-3)

There is the option for children to attend all year round or during term times only. Children are required to attend a minimum of two days a week.

Pre-School (children aged 3-4)

Entry to Pre-School is by parent meeting and a reference from your child’s current setting (if available). Children are required to attend a minimum of three days a week. Pre-School is term time only with the option to attend Holiday Club.

Reception

Entry to Reception is by parent meeting, trial session and reference from your child’s current setting.

Your child will be invited to attend a trial session, lasting approximately one hour (held in our Nursery Division). Children will take part in a number of group activities alongside our Nursery children, observed by the Head of the Pre-Prep and Nursery Manager.

Year 1 to Year 6

Parents are welcome to register their children to enter Years 1-6 in the Pre-Prep and Preparatory Divisions. If year groups are full, your child’s name will be added to the waiting list. If a space becomes available, a child will be selected from the waiting list, taking into account the School’s Admissions Policy.

Children applying for a place in Year 1 to Year 6 will be invited in for a Taster Day. During the day, they will sit assessments in Mathematics and English Creative Writing.

Additional full or weekly boarding places are available from Year 3 onwards.

Should a place not become available for a child’s requested term of entry, the registration will roll over to the next academic year until a place becomes available. Should a child reach Year 6 and a place has not become available in the Preparatory Division, parents shall be contacted regarding Senior Division entry. There is no need to re-register for Senior Division entry.

Please note that we are full in the cohort for Year 7 entry in 2024, and a waiting list is now in operation for this entry point.  Please contact the Admissions Department directly for further information.

Applications for entry to Year 7 in 2025 are considered on the following:

• Results of the ISEB Common Pre-Tests assessments, which may be completed in the student’s current setting or at New Hall School
• An interview with a member of staff, where we invite the student to deliver a short presentation on a subject of their choice
• A reference from the student’s current headteacher
• A supplementary piece of creative writing

The Admissions Committee carefully review the above when determining offers of places, subject to the student passing the initial entrance assessments.  Please see the below timeline for important dates for your diary relevant to 2025 entry.

Entrance into Year 9 is based upon an interview, baseline test results and their current Headteacher’s report. Candidates that are being prepared for Common Entrance examinations by their current school will normally sit these in May/June prior to entry in September. Candidates who are successful in the New Hall Year 9 Assessments will be given a conditional offer of a place subject to Common Entrance examinations.

Prospective students will need to achieve a minimum of three Grade 7s and two Grade 6s overall at GCSE. An offer of a place is based upon personal statement, school report, mock and predicted grades, school reference and interview with the Head of Sixth Form. If your child is currently a student at New Hall in Year 11, information will be sent through to you separately regarding the transition into Sixth Form.
