Classics

Curriculum

The Classics department at New Hall teaches Latin from Year 6 through to GCSE and A Level, in the Senior School.

In addition, Ancient Greek is taught to GCSE and A Level students in the Senior School and Classical Civilisation is offered in Years 8 and 9, and at A Level.

Co-Curriculum

Students have the opportunity to visit Italy and Greece, attend lecture days in London and explore Roman sites, of which there are a significant number in the region.

The department also welcomes visits to the school from university lecturers and from Legion XIIII who visit and teach Year 8 students about Roman life.

Departmental Achievements

In 2015, 71% of students achieved A*-B grades in Latin at GCSE; 50% of students achieved A*-B grades in Classics: Latin at A Level.

100% of students achieved A*-B grades in Classical Greek at A Level.

67% of students achieved A*-B grades in Classical Civilisation at A Level.
