Tennis

Tennis is a major sport for both boys and girls with county and national competitions being entered each year. There are a number of county players throughout the school, with many ranked in the top 10 in the country for their age group.

Students are offered the opportunity to improve their tennis skills through group lessons, games lessons and private tennis tuition. The more advanced students are picked for the teams and attend New Hall Tennis Academy sessions on a weekly basis. The coaching programme is led by our Head of Tennis, Mr Mark Crick.

Facilities

Students have the chance to develop their tennis skills in a unique setting. New Hall tennis facilities include 10 floodlit tennis courts and, in the Trinity Term, an additional 12 floodlit Astro courts which allow for play all year round.

Fixtures and Competitions

Fixtures take place during midweek games sessions and on Saturdays, with a comprehensive fixture list for all age groups and abilities throughout the Trinity term for both boys and girls. We have regular block fixtures against schools such as Bancrofts School, Culford, Felsted School, Haileybury, The Leys and Sevenoaks.

Teams are also entered into local and national competitions which include the LTA AEGON Senior Students competition, LTA AEGON National Schools Competitions at both U13 and U15 level, the prestigious Glanville and Aberdere Cup Competitions, the Independent Schools League and Independent Schools National Championships which are held annually at Eton College.

Tours

The tennis team prepares for the summer season by training overseas and has visited La Manga and Val de Lobo in the past. Easter 2016 saw the team travel back to Val de Lobo in Portugal for a week of intense training ahead of the summer season. We also have an annual trip for Year 7 and 8 pupils to Wimbledon to watch the professionals in action.

Academy

The New Hall Tennis Academy is designed to appeal to players of county to national standard who show a high level of commitment towards their tennis, whilst still allowing them to participate in academic life in the school.

At New Hall, we understand that achieving high level success in the sport becomes increasingly difficult as children go through their academic studies. High levels of educational achievement are important both for the individual and for the continued success of the school. This scheme allows New Hall to offer a high standard of education whilst still meeting the needs of high performing tennis players. We aim to become one of the top national tennis schools, helping to produce players of a national and international level.

The Tennis Academy has an extensive coaching programme, allowing tennis scholars the opportunity to access Redbridge Sports Centre as part of our High Performance link with Compete Tennis. The tennis programme is overseen by our Head of Tennis, Mr Crick, and his team, and caters for all abilities, allowing students the opportunity to have group, paired and individual lessons.
