Bursaries


The school makes available significant means-tested bursaries (of up to 100% of fees), to help students entering the school and current students whose parents would not otherwise be able to afford a New Hall education. Bursaries are advertised and publicised widely.


Scholarships

Scholarships are available for entry to Year 7, Year 9 and Sixth Form. For Year 7 entry, the following scholarships may be awarded: Academic, Open (All Rounder), Diocesan, Catholic Independent Schools, Music, Sport, Tennis and Special Talent. For Year 9: Academic, Open (All Rounder), Music, Tennis, Sport and Special Talent. For Sixth Form there are also Academic, GCSE Achievement, Open (All Rounder), Boarding and Special Talent scholarships available.

There is also an Outstanding Performer Award (St Cecilia Scholarship) available to Senior School students.


Facilities

The school shares the beautiful heritage campus and first class facilities with educational and religious groups in the wider community. These facilities are often provided either without charge or at minimal cost.

Many of the New Hall facilities are made available for use by the public. A number of local, regional and national groups have made use of school facilities in the past and many continue to do so:

Local and national groups that have used the school’s facilities free of charge:

  • The Catholic Parish of Springfield uses the Chapel weekly for Wednesday and Sunday Mass
  • The New Hall Voluntary Service uses a range of school facilities for charity work for those in need
  • Children from local maintained schools are invited to attend the New Hall Educational Day programme which takes place throughout the year, taking part in activities across the site
  • A range of paid sport and activity camps are hosted both by the school and external companies, in the schools grounds during the school holidays, which are open to children from any school
  • New Hall School donates theatre use, refreshments and use of a theatre technician for the ‘Let the Light Shine On’ fundraising dance show for The Charlotte Leatherbarrow Foundation
  • Local maintained senior schools use New Hall sport facilities for GCSE and A Level PE lessons
  • A local primary school uses the school’s theatre and facilities to host its annual end of year performance
  • A local Preparatory School held their end of year swimming gala at our Waltham Centre Swimming Pool
  • CESSSA and MESSSA netball rallies are held at New Hall, in conjunction with local maintained senior schools
  • The Essex County School of Rugby held a youth training camp at New Hall
  • The annual New Hall Triathlon includes athletes aged 7-16 from across the eastern region
  • The triathlon club, Discovery Tri, trains at New Hall on a weekly basis
  • The Canonesses of the Holy Sepulchre have regular access to the Chapel and facilities as and when needed, including the annual Mass for the Dead, Easter celebrations, funerals and Masses
  • New Hall hosts the annual AGM for the Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA)

Local and national groups that have used the school’s facilities with significant subsidy:

  • Chelmsford Swimming Club use the swimming pool eight times a week. They also have use of facilities for their AGM and hold their annual championships here.
  • A local Swim School use the New Hall Pool for lessons for local children
  • Chelmsford & District Junior & Senior Netball Leagues use the New Hall courts to facilitate training for over 80 clubs per week, as well as netball rallies. They also use New Hall facilities for the AGM
  • New Hall is the training ground for the Essex County Cricket Board girls’ performance squad, as well as both boys and girls emerging players’ training. The external pitches are also used for elite training by the ECCB
  • Local youth football clubs use the Astroturf for training on a weekly basis
  • Chelmsford Hockey Club regularly train at New Hall
  • Chelmsford Ballet Company uses the Dance Studio for rehearsals with local children
  • Chelmsford Star Harmony uses the drama studios for weekly singing rehearsals
  • The Essex Yeomanry Band rehearses at New Hall Preparatory School on a weekly basis
  • Local choir, the Waltham Singers, has regularly used New Hall as a venue for various workshops and fundraising events
  • The Chelmsford Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society used the drama studios for auditions
  • The New Hall Saturday swim school is open to local children and has been running for over ten years
  • East England Netball hold training and run camps at New Hall
  • The British Triathlon Federation (BTF) hold courses to gain level 1 & 2 coaches certificate
