Mr D Johnson, Vice Principal (Academic)

MA(Cantab) PGCE(Cantab)

After studying Theology at St Catharine’s College, Cambridge, Mr Johnson was Head of RE at Boswells School in Chelmsford before working for fourteen years at King Edward VI Grammar School, Chelmsford, where he was a Head of Department, a Head of Year, the timetabler and, for the last five years, one of the Assistant Headteachers.

Mr Johnson is committed to the view that high expectations are vital for academic success and this is particularly true of the students’ own expectations of themselves. He has a keen interest in many of the current discussions about teaching and learning, but his fourteen years in a grammar school has taught him that it is the basics that are all important: are the students working to the best of their ability and what are the students thinking about during each lesson?

Outside the classroom (and inside it) he enjoys philosophy and he is currently ‘translating’ one of David Hume’s works into modern English.
